Leslie Caron in Lili, 1953
Bizarre fun fact - that puppet on the right was lost after this movie. There was a collector in Santa Monica that had all the other puppets in his museum (the collector has since died and the museum sold off). He was bringing them out for a screening of Lili at the international puppet festival.
I was volunteering at the museum, which was empty, when two women came in with a rolling suitcase. Their grandfather had carved these puppets and inside was the missing guy. He had been sitting in their attic and all the kids had played with him over the years.
I got to be there as all the puppets were reunited for literally the first time in fifty years. Later that night, they were all brought onstage with Leslie. It was cool.
Yep, i’d wear those earrings in a heartbeat. Go through a lot of shirts, though…Anne Francis for ‘Forbidden Planet’, 1956.
